Emeritus Professor Richard Howells invited to give lecture at Fairleigh Dickinson University

Richard Howells, CMCI’s Emeritus Professor of Cultural Sociology, has given an invited Schering-Plough Executive Lecture to students and faculty at Fairleigh Dickinson University in the United States.

Howells spoke on: “The Joy of Semiotics”, illustrating communications theory with examples from branding and advertising, including the subliminal marketing of tobacco products in Formula One racing.

He also invoked his UK business hero, Gerald Ratner, the former chief executive officer of the Ratners Group of jewellery retailers.
