CMCI goes to Brazil – or at least some of us… CMCI attendance at the International Gender and Language Association Conference

CMCI’s Dr Christina Scharff recently spoke at the 7th International Gender and Language Association Conference at the Universidade do Vale dos Sinos (UNISINOS), Sao Leopoldo, Brazil.

The conference offered three full days with plenty of opportunities to share ideas in the fields of language, gender, and sexuality. Dr Scharff and doctoral students Ana Sofia Elias and Laura Harvey held a panel ‘New femininities: postfemnism, neoliberalism and subjectivity’ that addressed a range of contemporary issues in gender research, including doing feminist research on other’s bodies (Ana Sofia Elias), class and gender on the Jeremy Kyle Show (Laura Harvey), and German public debates about feminism (Christina Scharff).
