Dr Lauren England is delighted to announce the launch of the Africa Fashion Futures Podcast.
This research podcast series shares insights and expertise on the fascinating world of African Fashion. The podcast provides an opportunity to hear from academics and industry experts and learn about the opportunities and innovations they see in African Fashion and the work of African designers.

The podcast is hosted by Dr Lauren England, Dr Eka Ikpe and Professor Roberta Comunian at King’s College London, and edited by Cristina Cabral.

Episode 1: Professor Jen Snowball and Dr Lauren England discuss (isi)Shweshwe and small business development in South Africa. The conversation focuses on how intellectual property rights in the design space can have a real impact on the livelihoods of microenterprises.

Episode 2: Dr England and Dr Ikpe meet with Ken Kweku Nimo, author of the book ‘Africa in Fashion’. They discuss Ken’s experience as a brand strategist, his research on African luxury fashion brands, and his journey writing the book Africa in Fashion. The conversation then goes deeper into the idea of luxury and draws out some connections between his work and the research of Dr Ikpe, Dr England and Professor Comunian on the concept of Lead Firms from Below in African Fashion.

Episode 3: A conversation between Dr England and Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, Founder of Africa Fashion Week London and Nigeria. They speak about the evolution of AFW and go deeper into how the organisation and Queen Ronke herself approach sustainable fashion and women’s empowerment and leadership.
