Following her presentation at the recent CMCI animation symposium, Hye-Kyung gave a talk at the Cultural Technology symposium in Seoul on 3 November 2009.The symposium was organised by KAIST (Korea Advanced Institution of Science and Technology), one of the most prominent science universities in Korea. The theme was Internet, Society and Humanity, and a huge emphasis was put on the issue of social/political networking and internet communities.
Hye-Kyung’s talk ‘Anime fansubbing and manga scanlation: labour of love between fandom and copyright infringement’ was based on findings from her ongoing research in cultural consumers’ nonmarket production and distribution of culture.
